French grammar

French verb endings

Three families, dozens of irregulars—your ear can learn faster than your eyes.

-er verbs (parler, aimer)

The largest group: -e, -es, -e, -ons, -ez, -ent in present. Hear the rhyme across je/tu/il.

  • je parle
  • tu parles
  • nous parlons
  • ils parlent

-ir verbs (finir)

Present often shows -is, -is, -it, -issons, -issez, -issent—listen for the extra -iss- in plural.

Irregular heavyweights

être, avoir, aller, faire break patterns but appear constantly—drill them first.

  • je suis / j’ai / je vais / je fais

Musical pattern drilling

Each conjugation map in Rhythmica is its own song—endings land on beats so -ons and -ez stop blurring together.
